Role of a Patient Participation Group (PPG)

1. Advisory Role: Act as a “critical friend” to the practice by offering feedback from a patient's point of view.

1. Patient Engagement: Encourage patients to take an active role in their own health and the health of their families.

1. Communication: Improve communication between patients and the GP practice, ensuring patients are kept informed about services and changes.

1. Service Development: Influence how services are developed by providing patient insights and feedback. This could include helping create action plans based on patient surveys and concerns.

1. Research and Surveys: Conduct research, promote patient surveys, and gather feedback to improve services.

1. Liaison Role: Connect with other organizations to make sure the practice stays informed about broader health and social care issues.

• Contact: Reach out to the practice at wibsey.queensbury@nhs.net with your name, contact details, and a brief description of your interest.

• One of their Patient Service Advisors will get in touch with you.

1. Apologies:

2. Surgery Updates:

Parklands Medical Practice:

• Successfully implemented a new phone system with positive feedback from patients.

• Recently had a CQC visit, which went very well.

• Nurse Stacey has left after 10 years of service.

The Ridge:

• CQC premises inspection was carried out at both Ridge and Parklands for Dermatology and Vasectomy services (delivered by Trust Primary Care). The inspection went well, with no concerns raised. Results expected in 2–3 weeks.

• Care Navigation Restructure:

  
  

  • Recruitment and training successful; new team members are settling in.

  
  

  • Continued support from a remote telephony service has helped reduce wait times.

  
  

  • Average call time reduced to 4 minutes.

  
  

  • New Care Navigation Team Leader appointed, improving data monitoring and service.

• Buttershaw Surgery Development:

  
  

  • Four new clinical rooms to be built in the old church hall.

  
  

  • Funded by the government, with project completion expected in December 2025.

  
  
  

3. Community and Group Updates:

Friends of Westwood Park:

• Successful open day raised £196 for public liability insurance.

• Group working on becoming a charity.

• Request for someone from the 5 Parks PCN to manage a garden space, with a proposed budget of £150 for tools/plants if someone takes responsibility.

• Potential collaboration with social prescribers to encourage patient involvement.

Maternity Circles:

• Available for parents with children aged 0–24 months, offering advice, support, and help.

Walking Groups:

• MW and TG received Volunteer of the Year award from Well Together Service.

• Walks are well-attended and continuing successfully.

Reading Aloud Group:

• Regular visits to Cooperhouse Care Home and Springfield.

• Challenges at Cooperhouse's bottom room but manageable.

• Seeking at least one more volunteer reader.

Chairobics Group:

• 29 members, with 22–23 attending regularly.

• Looking for additional support/leader.

• Rana (social prescriber) to explore options via Beacon Church.

Knit and Knatter Group:

• Group progressing well.

• Some language barriers were resolved by transitioning members to more supportive knitting groups pre-Ramadan.

Reception Support Group:

• SM’s attendance inconsistent due to ill health.

• MW currently off; team working hard to maintain support.

4. Any Other Business:

• Incident at Ridge GH: A man collapsed in the entrance; no blankets/pillows available due to infection control guidelines. Liz mentioned there are foil blankets in the crash trolley. Care Navigation team notified.

• SG's Thanks: Extended a thank you to Parklands for their support during SG’s recent ill health.

• PPG Noticeboard at Parklands: AB noted its absence. Fiona to investigate updating/installing a new board.

• HBT Disabled Access: Raised concern about sharp entrance turn and blocked internal access from the pharmacy. HL to discuss with EB.

• Wheelchair Issues at Ridge GH:

  
  

  • Previously unlabelled, often left in unsuitable places.

  
  

  • HL has now labelled all wheelchairs to improve management.
